2018: Do More, Talk Less
New Year New Me?
Haha, I really do need to write more in this blog more than once a year. So here goes a try!
My overall theme for this year shall be "Do More, Talk Less" (which is a little contradictory since I'm technically "talking" right now). I want to complete a lot of projects that I've always wanted to do. A lot of the past year and a half was a lot of self-discovery of what I wanted to do artistically. A lot of it was mostly preparation to execute my aspirations. I was trying to get a full time job and move on from being a temp; I was saving up money to buy some gear (still doing so to upgrade my computer); and I had a lot of priorities like family trips and attending weddings (which does get a bit costly). Also, not having a camera and only my iPhone is very limited to improve with one's photography. But it did help with self-reflection and allowing me to look back at my old photos with fresh eyes.
This is the year to start doing!! I've got my camera ready and poised, and any more reasons that come up to not take photos are just excuses now. Therefore, no more excuses.
Now that the overall theme is to do more and talk less, I'm going to list more specific projects so that I have them all organized:
Projects:
1) Make a photobook or zine
2) Start making videos and experimenting with film.
3) Thoroughly read the cinematography book I got over christmas. Alongside, read up on theory books in general and start to practice them instead of only visualize them.
4) Do 4 months of running challenges where I run everyday for the whole month.
5) Try a new role at work
6) Travel!
7) Make memories -- take as many photos and videos as possible and bring your camera to as many places as you can.
As for events I'm excited about this year, I'm happy to be taking a trip to NYC for fun, and an asian trip at the end of the year. October my dad wants the family to take a Philippines trip for his birthday, and I'm going to stop by either HK, Korea, or Japan alongside. Lastly, this weekend I'm heading to Nola and geared with a camera. So I'm pretty stoked! Here's to art, memories, and travel 2018!
Below are some photos taken on the first day of the year. I got a prism for my birthday (thanks fam!) and Nick took me out to get some HotPot on this surprisingly cold day in Austin, Texas.
